Breast reduction, also known as “reduction mammoplasty,” is a surgical procedure that eliminates excess breast skin, fat, and glandular tissue to improve the shape and size of overly large breasts. The size of the areola (the darker skin that surrounds the nipple) is also usually reduced during breast reduction surgery. This procedure decreases the volume and weight of the breasts to make them more proportionate with the rest of the body and to improve the quality of life for the patient.

There is no specific age that makes a see patient and ideal candidate for breast reduction surgery. We patients of all ages whose breast size hinders daily activities. This is a more important factor over age when assessing someone needs and wants for a breast reduction. Dr. Brennan assesses every patient’s individual needs and gives his best professional advice.

Will breast reduction surgery correct sagging breasts?

In many instances a breast reduction surgery will improve the position of a patient’s breast. Dr. Brennan’s approach to surgery is smart surgery. If he can achieve a significant improvement with the least amount of invasiveness he will recommend that route first. There is always a secondary procedure that can be performed if the patient would like additional improvement in the position of ones breast. The majority of patients are happy with the change in position with a breast reduction surgery only.

Will insurance cover the cost of breast reduction surgery?

In some cases Insurance will cover a portion of a breast reduction surgery. It all depends on and individuals plan and coverage. At our practice we allow PPO insurance only. During your consultation insurance will be discussed in further detail.

How long will the results last?

Results are typically long lasting but weight changes can affect results.

How big will the incision & scar be?

Dr. Brennan always makes a conscious effort to minimize incisions and potential for scarring. In many cases incision are less than 1in.
