Babies faces are usually full of fat. Sometimes as we develop, we lose that facial fat. Volume loss to the face has become increasingly recognized as an important component to the aging process. This can be restored with either office-based fillers or facial fat grafting. Facial fat provides the surgeon a number of options. At times patients request the reduction of excess fat in order to better contour and sculpt the facial skeleton. This procedure can be used to augment the cheeks, nasolabial folds, jaw-line, as well as many other areas of the body, by using your own tissue to further enhance your look.
The effects of aging cause loss of facial volume due to loss of facial fat. The surgeon then must provide a means to re-establish facial volume to its original, youthful degree. By taking unneeded fat from other areas of the body, the surgeon can then re-deposit it in areas of the face which require volume enhancement. Since fat is an autologous (“from our own body”), it provides the most safe and effective means to enhance the facial skeleton.
Volume restoration for the face also adds more light to the face, which in turn can make the skin look more radiant. Adding fat back to the face can even begin to help the skin texture and tone. A minimally invasive liposuction technique is used and this procedure can be done in the office by a local sedation. The patient is able to return to all normal hygiene and activities that same day.
