Prominent cheekbones are a hallmark of beauty in our culture. Men and women with strong, high cheekbones convey a youthful look. When your cheekbones are flat, this can cause a tired or aged appearance. Cheek implants provide greater definition to your cheekbones, which provide greater balance with the rest of your face.
These conditions can easily be improved by a minimally invasive procedure called a cheek (or malar) augmentation. Dr. Brennan will have the implant designed according to a preoperative analysis of your facial size and structure.
This procedure can be done on an out-patient basis, either under a very safe general anesthesia or using a local anesthesia to numb the treated area while the patient remains awake. The incision is made inside the mouth, therefore keeping the incision scar hidden. During the procedure, a "pocket" is created into which the implant is inserted. This helps anchor the implant in place. The patient can resume all normal activity the day after surgery, and all sutures are removed within one week.
